Ticket to Ride is an easy to learn board game.

In this game each player takes the role of a train company, aiming to connect cities with your trainline based on cards you collect during the game.  Longer routes offer more points, so that Seattle to Miami would score highly, whilst Boston to New York would have a low score.

Play progresses by either drawing cards with symbols that relate to intercity connections, by collecting route cards or by laying tracks on symbols that match the cards held by the player.

The game ends when one of the players runs out of train carriages.  At this point you all add up how many routes you've managed to compete, less the routes that you have not.

There are a number of variations on the game (different regions, such as Europe) and card expansions.
