David Taylor

David hails from Tauranga, in New Zealand.  He manages to juggle his work in export shipping with his online retail interest - Seriously Board - and the imminent arrival of his new baby... and still gets in regular game time!

Can you tell us what sort of social games you play?
A: I made a triumphant return to board gaming about 4 years ago after growing up on the mainstream titles as a kid.  I've also dabbled in role playing on and off for the last 15 years.

What games do you own?  Do you have any favourites?
A: I have an ever growing collection, and my favourites always change.  The size of my 'must buy' list is somewhat intimidating, but if I had to pick a favourite, I couldn't go past my compatriots who designed a gem by the name of Endeavor.

When did you last play one of your  games, with whom and what was the outcome?
A: Outside of the two regular gaming groups that I attend, my wife and I play games any chance we get.  A few nights ago we played two games of Pillars of the Earth: Builders Duel.  Angie is a big fan of the original game, and this gave us the opportunity to play despite a tight schedule.  We both won a game each, so neither of us has asserted dominance.  Yet.

What do you do for a living, what pays the gaming bills?
A: With a baby on the way, our budget has taken a hammering, but we're still putting a little bit of money aside each week to save up for new games.  This money comes from my day job – documentation for export shipping.  I'm also a co-director of online retailer SeriouslyBoard.co.nz and an aspiring writer, so the dream is to make a living either through writing or board games.  Thru-the-Portal gives me an opportunity to combine two of my passions.

Anything else you would like to add?
A: If you're a board game fan and you live in New Zealand or Australia, make sure you come on over to http://seriouslyboard.co.nz and see if we can offer you a great deal!
